Records OF '03 MAR-'11 APR
This is the 2nd of 2 articles for records from the time I stopped doing these till present Season. First one was for TDs & almost QDs and this one is for Player, Team and Game records as they happened chronologically and with links. And not sure if the two articles look like much but it took me forever to compile the data of almost 8 Seasons, lol. Hopefully you find the data useful.
So, I will start by commenting on some of the trends that I observed for the records over the years followed by a comparison that I made with previous 2 iterations. And then, straight to the data.
About the trends, team offenses went from mostly inside in the early Seasons of the iteration to almost every team doing outside focus and with higher scores and higher tempo. And you can see this with scoring and particularly 3pt records going up. And also points allowed record staying the same as low scoring inside teams are part of what happened in early stages of the iteration. And with lineups going smaller or at least less physical, you also see early records for team / game rebounds and blocks remaining the same. It is interesting to notice though that player record for points was broken 4 times in last 8 years and it was always done by big physical players.
Ok, so now I will compare records in this Iteration to Itp6 (23 Seasons) and Itp7 (7 Seasons) taking in mind Itp8 is currently somewhere in between the 2 with 12 Seasons. Starting with points, ITP8 is still short by 11 points to both Itp7 and Itp6 although I can't imagine Itp8 breaking this record if you consider depth chart rules that changed over the iterations plus the reduction of camps (although there are players now that can receive more points via D-League + camps). And this reasoning is more notorious when checking FGA records that go from 55 and 53 to 44. Plus, 44 FGA record for this Season actually came in the inaugural Season and so was the case for FT records. ITP8 actually has a record for FTs made compared to ITP7 in ITP8 obtained by Walton (You should find the link to that record if you go to the '00 Best Of article). As for the rest of the records, ITP8 is a bit behind as well except for turnovers but that one is good I suppose, lol. Plus ITP7 Kevin Murphy was unstoppable when it came to losing the ball. And related to my other TDs article I suppose it was more likely for a quadruple double to happen either in Itp6 and Itp7 because of higher blocks, assists and rebounds in general plus higher records. Steal record is of 10 for Itp8 but of 12 and 11 for previous iterations making a pg quadruple double a bit more likely.
But anyway. the records are the following.
