Joe Biden: My fellow Americans welcome to first episode of The Barkley & Bayless Show.
Skip Bayless: We already did a first episode. You were there Joe. Remember?
Joe Biden: I was?
Barkley: Joe we're 10 seconds into the show and you're already pissing me off.
Skip Bayless: Relax. Put your glasses back on.
Joe Biden: So this is episode 2 right?
Skip Bayless: Yes 2 comes after 1 Joe.
Joe Biden: My fellow Americans welcome to Episode 2 of the Barkley and Bayless Show.
Charles Barkley: Why do you only say Americans? What if we got fans in Indonesia? Or Istanbul? That's in Turkey right Skip?
Skip Bayless: Again you're thinking about food? You just had lunch.
Joe Biden: My wife packed me a lunch. Did anybody see where it went?
Charles Barkley: You ate it Joe. You still got the mayonnaise on your bottom lip.
Joe Biden: Thank You Charles. So lunch is over, and so is the 2016 ITP Season. The Utah Jazz repeated as Champions defeating the Indiana Pacers 4-0 in the Finals. Shawn Marion won Playoffs MVP averaging 38.3 PPG. Any thoughts on how the season ended?
Charles Barkley: The Jazz beat the Pacers ass.
Skip Bayless: I know the Jazz won 4-0. But the Pacers did put up a fight. Game 2 went to Overtime. Game 3 the Pacers had a 13 point 2nd half lead. It could have easily been a 2-2 series heading into Game 5. But Shawn Marion was too dominant. 43 points and 20 rebounds in the clincher. Are you kidding me? Incredible performance by Marion and the Jazz. But it was a great year for the Pacers as well.
Joe Biden: A great year indeed. But now begins new year. As the 2017 off-season is underway. And the first order of business was the announcement of multiple retirements around the league.
2017 170 Heat PG Saben Lee retires
2017 170 Warriors SG Allan Houston retires
2017 170 Pacers C Priest Lauderdale retires
2017 170 76ers SF Kyle Anderson retires
2017 170 Pistons SG Bogdan Bogdanovic retires
2017 170 Mavericks PG Dante Exum retires
2017 170 Lakers C Joel Embiid retires
2017 170 Mavericks PF Jack Coleman retires
2017 170 Magic SF Jarell Martin retires
2017 170 Knicks PF Andrea Bargnani retires
2017 170 Sonics PF Nerlens Noel retires
2017 170 Raptors C James Wiseman retires
2017 170 Cavaliers PG Shane Larkin retires
2017 170 Bulls PG Dennis Schroder retires
2017 170 Celtics SF Giannis Antetokounmpo retires
What retirements stand out to you?
Charles Barkley: Priest Lauderdale retired? I thought priesthood was a lifetime commitment.
Skip Bayless: You can retire from anything. You should consider retiring from cheeseburgers and milk shakes.
Charles Barkley: Why don't you go suck on another Diet Mountain Dew.
Skip Bayless: It's gonna suck to no longer see Joel Embiid in the league. He was a joy to watch. One of the first true bigs in this league that could shoot the three pointer. He was an all around amazing scorer. At all 3 levels. At the 3pt line, mid range, and in the paint. Joel Embiid was a monster. He will be missed.
Charles Barkley: Yeah the whole league's gonna miss him and his turnovers. You would get 3 free steals per game playing Embiid. I'm gonna miss Giannis. I loved me some Giannis. He would score, rebound, he was always making the all defensive team. He was a great passer. And he has a great personality. The league will miss his smile and dad jokes.
Skip Bayless: I personally didn't care for his smile. He always wanted to be a nice guy. Be friendly with everybody. He lacked that killer instinct like one Michael Jeffrey Jordan. That's why in 17 years he never won an ITP Championship.
Joe Biden: Speaking of champions. Andrea Bargnani and Bogdan Bogdanovic won a championship together back in 2011 with the Detroit Pistons. It's cool to see them retire together.
Skip Bayless: Wow. I'm surprised you knew that Joe.
Joe Biden: Yeah me and Obama went to 2011 Finals to celebrate when we killed Osama Bin Laden. I remember those 2011 Pistons well.
Skip Bayless: I remember the 2001 ITP Draft well. When James Wiseman was traded for LaMelo Ball. James became a butt of many jokes because of that deal. But he did last 16 years in the league. Won a championship. 1 more than Giannis ever did. He had a solid career.
Joe Biden: I'm glad you mentioned LaMelo Ball. Lets transition from Retirements to Free Agency. LaMelo Ball is entering free agency for the first time in his now 17 year career. Who should he sign with?
Charles Barkley: He should go back to New York and finish up his career there. Play his entire career with 1 franchise. Re-sign with the Knicks and ultimately retire a Knick. That's the story book ending.
Skip Bayless: Not this story Charles. LaMelo should GO. It's time for him to leave and go BALL elsewhere. The Knicks/LaMelo has run it's course.
Charles Barkley: Skip he has 5 championships and 10 MVPs with them
Skip Bayless: He's not winning another MVP. And as long as he's around the Knicks aren't winning another championship neither.
Charles Barkley: Why are you being so disrespectful?
Skip Bayless: I'm just being honest. LaMelo is no longer a young man. He's played 16 seasons. Hes entering season 17. His production has been declining for years. It's time for the Knicks to pass the baton to a younger Point Guard to lead their team. Someone like Booger Smith.
Charles Barkley: So if LaMelo leaves. Where the hell is he gonna go?
Skip Bayless: The Los Angeles Lakers. He can serve as a mentor for the young Reggie Jackson. He goes back home to LA. His family is there. He has a greater comfort level there. And maybe the Lakers can make him a player AND president of the team. Like the Washington Wizards once did with Michael Jeffrey Jordan.
Joe Biden: The Lakers do have 43 million dollars in cap space to make some Free Agent splashes. One player that they will definitely be considering is 7 time All Star Center Chris Hawkins. The Philadelphia 76ers rejected Hawkins re-sign offer. Losing his bird rights in the process. But with 35 million in cap space, the door is still open for Hawkins to return to Philly. Should he?
Charles Barkley: Hell no. They rejected the offer. So he gotta go.
Skip Bayless: Go where?
Charles Barkley: He should get revenge and go to one of those young teams in Phillys division. Orlando or Brooklyn. They got the money to sign him. Orlando got the young guards Murray and Gordon. Faried at Power Forward. Hawkins would be a perfect fit for them.
Skip Bayless: Get real Charles. Hawkins is NOT going to the Orlando Magic.
Charles Barkley: So where then smart guy?
Skip Bayless: He's staying put in Philadelphia. He's been there 11 years. He's won 2 championships with the 76ers. He's still only 29. He's still in the prime of his career. There is too much of an incentive for both parties to stay together. Which is why unlike with LaMelo, I see Hawkins staying.
Joe Biden: Former 2014 ITP MVP Steve Nash was bought out of his contract by the LA Clippers. Could he sign back with them on a new deal?
Skip Bayless: Absolutely not. The Clippers are moving on. They have two younger guards in Frank Ramsay and Kemba Walker. Those 2 should get increased roles next season. While Steve Nash finds himself a new team?
Charles Barkley: What about the Phoenix Suns?
Skip Bayless: Nash and the Suns has a nice ring to it. You can almost picture him in a Suns uniform.
Charles Barkley: They need a point guard too right Skip?
Skip Bayless: Yeah unless they plan on starting Dleaguer Kris Dunn. He's the only PG option on their roster. Dunn has no main roster experience. So bringing in an experienced lead guard like Nash. A former MVP. A 2 time champion. He's a perfect fit for their roster.
Charles Barkley: Fits like a glove.
Skip Bayless: Suns actually had a chance to draft Nash back in 2005. They had the #4 pick and Nash was still on the board. They took Bob Cousy instead. BIG Mistake. Now they have an opportunity to right their wrongs. Nash to Phoenix. That was a good suggestion Charles.
Joe Biden: Any Suggestions on where Marcus Smart should go?
Charles Barkley: He'd be Smart to the get the hell out of San Antonio.
Skip Bayless: Why is that?
Charles Barkley: Well first of all they suck. They had the worst record in the Western Conference last year.
Skip Bayless: But Smart is a fan favorite in San Antonio.
Charles Barkley: Fans? You're talking the big ole women eating Churros?
Skip Bayless: Leave the women in San Antonio alone Charles. But you are right. Smart is 34 years old and the Spurs are clearly rebuilding. He should look to join a contending team.
Charles Barkley: What about the Pistons?
Skip Bayless: 2 good ideas in a row. The Detroit Pistons. I like that.
Charles Barkley: Detroit has that blue collar city feel. They appreciate defense. Smart is an excellent defender.
Skip Bayless: They could use some scoring too with the retirement of Bogdanovic. Smart fills that void. He would upgrade their backcourt.
Joe Biden: A team seeking backcourt upgrades will definitely be pursuing Zach LaVine. Where do you think hes headed?
Skip Bayless: It feels like he has some unfinished business with Dallas. He was hurt most of his last season. He got injured at the start. Then injured at the end of the year when they were trying to make the playoffs. His lack of health ultimately cost the Mavs a playoff spot. I think he should go back and try to have a better healthier season.
Charles Barkley: I think Lavine should back to the Lakers. He had some of his greatest seasons there. He was a League 1st Team guy. Scored 30+ points per game multiple times.
Skip Bayless: He spent the first 7 years of his career with the Lakers. That's a interesting reunion idea.
Joe Biden: Is a Paul Wright/Golden State reunion in the works?
Charles Barkley: It better. They can't afford to lose him.
Skip Bayless: Agreed. A 24 year old with great defense and excellent rebounding. He's. Perfect fit with their young front court. He's 24. Serge Ibaka is 19. Kawhi is 21. This trip should be kept together for a long time.
Joe Biden: Well we've been here a long time. And I think it's time to call it a show. Thank you for watching Episode 2 of the Barkley and Bayless Show.
