If you were drafted in 2008, this means you are currently on your contract year. It’s about time you man up and show some decent results in order to earn solid offer to your first non-rookie contract. It’s also a perfect time to see, which talents lived to their hype, which failed to do so, and which got overlooked.
1. Paul Pierce Original pick 1 of round 1 by Hawks
B+ A- C A- B B (27.7 PPG 8.1 RPG .439 3p%)
First pick and Rookie of the Year lived up to trust put in him by Atlanta management. Now he is ready to take max contract and became face of the franchise. Hawks, probably.
2. Robert Traylor Original pick 28 of round 1 by Clippers
B+ D+ D A- A- C (19.7 PPG 12.2 RPG 2.7 BPG)
Funny story, but Clippers got this pick from Raptors. And after the debut season, traded Tractor back to Toronto, where he was turned into beast.
3. Jelani McCoy Original pick 2 of round 2 by Knicks
A- D+ D A- B+ C (21.1 PPG 10.2 RPG 2.2 BPG)
It is no coincidence that Knicks keeps contending season after season - part of it is the flair for picks like this, and determination for development like that.
4. Mike Bibby Original pick 4 of round 1 by Bucks
C+ A- A- A- C- B (13.7 PPG 8.5 APG)
To be completely honest, I put Mike here not only because of his skills or stats, but also due to the fact of how critical PG position in our league is. Mike turned into great floor general, maybe a bit careless with the ball at times, but very solid otherwise.
5. Dirk Nowitzki Original pick 2 of round 1 by Jazz
B A- D+ A C+ B (21 PPF 9.2 RPG .478 3p%)
Dirk is unconventional big who can spread the floor, play some good defence, isn't the best rebounder tho. Useful as 2nd or 3rd option, but don't think he could ever take a team to some big wins as a main guy. Still have nice potential tho.
6. Rashard Lewis Original pick 8 of round 1 by Timberwolves
B A- C- A- C B (22.9 PPG 6.4 RP .526 3p%)
For his first three seasons, I felt that Lewis wass not getting enough minutes. But now everyone can clearly see, that he is one of the league best wing players already - at least if we speak about offence.
7. Ricky Davis Original pick 11 of round 1 by Rockets
B+ A- C- B C B (18.6 PPF 5.9 RPG)
Ricky exploded in his sophomore season, however, haven’t progressed much after that. Still, Davis is very solid scorer if you are able to ignore the fact that he isn’t very efficient player overall.
8. Michael Olowokandi Original pick 12 of round 1 by Cavaliers
B- D D- A- B+ C (8.5 PPG 10.3 RPG 1.4 BPG)
To me it was a bit surprising to find what kind of player Michael have turned into – I would say he was under my radar. He is actually solid big, as long as you don’t require much scoring.
9. Clyde Lovellette Original pick 6 round 1 by Pistons
A- C C B- B- B (12.2 PPG 8.1 RPG)
A raw prospect at the draft night eventually turned into crafty inside scorer. He can't offer much else, but if you need some additional scoring from your bench, players like Clyde can be very useful.
10. Jason Williams Original pick 19 round 1 by Trail Blazers
C A B+ A- D+ B (7.6 PPG 6 APG)
White chocolate is almost too good to be your 2nd point guard, but not good enough to start. Still, developed much better than many GM’s expected.
top 10 picks who did not make top 10 in re-draft:
#3 by Pacers Antawn Jamison B B- C- B- B- C
I mean he is not bad, 6 PPG is not what you actually expect from third pick of the draft, right?
#7 by Spurs Dick Barnett B- B- B- B+ C- C
Dick was changed his team twice this season. This shows he has some nice trade value. This also shows, that teams are not confident to tie him to their future plans.
#9 by Magic Al Harrington C+ C+ D C+ C D
If you are looking for the biggest bust of the drat 2008… that’s the one.
#10 by Wizards Bonzi Wells C+ C+ C A- C- B
Seem like boy can defend, but… hasn’t really found a team who would be interested in his services yet.
Draft of 2008 seemed like star-heavy draft. Ultimately, some of the biggest gems where hidden quite deep. Something to think about before this next star-heavy draft of 2012?
