Grizzlies send: Rip Hamilton and $1,000 cash Pacers send: Elton Brand insidethepaint.proboards.com/thread/40490/pacers-grizzliesAny thoughts on this trade? Specifically, any thoughts on the cash value to move up and down in the lottery? This trade was being negotiated before either player was selected and was basically #4 for #7 and 1k cash. I also tried to trade #4 for #6 and $800 and that offer was denied. What do you guys think is the value of moving up/down in the top 10?

First of all, it is nice to see that you are putting some life into this folder of ITP forum!
Moving up and down the draft does not have steady value for sure, I always see draft in bulks, like for example sometimes there is huge difference between pick #2 and #3, while other drafts have picks 1-5 pretty much same value. There is also individual approach by each teams, since you might have certain positions filled, others vacant, but maybe those positions you need are not strong in current draft too? So there are a lot of moving parts, and I wrote this long text without giving you any true answer, haha, sorry for that.
If we speak about this particular trade, I think it's a win-win deal. Brand has more potential to become a very valuable piece, but Pacers is more in need for cash than Grizzlies.
You wanted Heat pick, did I got that right? They are proxy-controlled team with less cash. They have their every position open, it's wise they start rebuild with point guard now. It could have been predicted that either Francis or Baron will probably be available at #5. That trade would have made been mistake for them.

Brand could come in and win ROTY. So it makes sense to go for the bigger prospect for Memphis. They can sacrifice cash because they got $5000 in the bank. Giving them plenty left over to camp Elton and Vince as their core.
For Pacers they needed SG. Rip is a nice fit. And cash helps the progress of their young guys.
