Had some time to kill before MNF, so decided to make this.
Warriors. A team who had not won 25 games the past 2 seasons. Getting top 5 overall pick at the draft last 3 seasons. Drafted Allen Iverson, David West and Drazen Petrovic to fill the top 3 rookies. This season, they were hoping to see some improvement. Start to see some wins. They have tried to get a free agents for the past 3 seasons without any success. This season, they still wanted to see some improvements since AI and West had a few seasons under their belt. They both had good success with the team the 2 seasons before.
Start of the season was a little rough for the team. They were really struggling to get some wins and not getting blown out. 6 losses to start the season and a record of 13-27 before the all star game. Everything seemed to be doom and nobody could do anything. At this point, somehow something changed. At which point, we changed the options to have Petrovic as the first option and make it so Jones would be the real 3rd option after AI. From there, the W's took off. 24-18 was the record after the All star break. Complete change in the record. We also eventually moved AI to SG and Petrovic to SF. Now, although it helps with turnovers, it obviously hurts us because of rebounds. Beside that, still ended the season hot and was able to reach the playoffs while being at the bottom of the league for the longest time.
We can separate the season in 4 different quarters. Start of the season, after acquisition of Dwight Jones, After All star game, After acquisition of Malachi Flynn.
Before we acquired Dwight Jones, We were 10-18. Awful start. Awful performances. Just not around what we were looking for. We could tell AI's turnovers were down. West was getting better at rebounding and blocking shots. Those were 2 great points. We could tell Petrovic would be a serious contender for rookie of the year (which he won). But that was not what we wanted to see. We wanted to not be ass bad as last season, yet with that pace, we would barely get to 30 wins.
Then we acquired Dwight Jones. Somehow, this made the record even worse. 3-9 after the acquisition. That was just not it. Something was not working at all. We had to do something. So we made some small changes like changing Petrovic to being 1st option.
After All Star game, this is where it started to change. 16-13 after the all star game. We started to heat up a little bit. Made some sequence of wins instead of 1 win then getting blown out 5 straight game. It was a great sequence. This is also where we switched AI to SG and Petrovic to SF. We at that point used Van Lier as the starting PG. Regular PG that passes the ball and can help facilitate.
Finally, after acquiring Flynn, we went 8-5. Ended the season with 7-3 last 10 record. Great end to the season. We hope to translate that to next season and hopefully improve again and make it to the playoffs as an higher seed. Hopefully make it mid of the pack in the West, which is very strong conference right now.
I have also taken a look at the record since we made Iverson to SG instead of PG. 19-11 is our record since we made the switch. That is Van Lier or Flynn at PG, I\verson at SG and Petrovic at SF. We might see if we can keep that going into next season, although we would need some seriously good player at the bigs. My other option? Trade my 1st pick 16th overall for an actual SF and move Petrovic to sub for PG/SG/SF. That would give us a seriously good 6th man.
Second time historically that the Dubs make the playoffs. They were eliminated last time in a 7 games series. I do not think we will be beating the Kings, if we can win 1, I would be happy with that I suppose.
Thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed.
