Today's rankings after sim 7
After 49 days of games, we can now see a better picture that makes a lot of sense looking at those rankings. Top of the standings, show the top teams. While bottom of the standings, show the bottom teams. Now let us look at the rankings and the standings to see what I think is wrong.
I think according to record and standings, Knicks is the best team in the league right now. They have only 5 lost in 37 games which is really good. Outscoring the opponent by 20 points! They actually are 4 points ahead of the 2nd team in that category which is the Raptors. Their lowest rank is currently 12. They are doing really well and I do believe they should be rank#1 but obviously that is not how the rankings work.
I would give the notch to Raptors for 2nd and Kings 3rd. They are the clear top 3 teams overall right now. It could end up as Kings vs Raptors/Knicks this season again. It will be interesting to see come playoffs time.
4th team in my eyes would be Nuggets. Although the rankings have them at 6, and they dropped a position, I think if they can figure out the turnovers they would be right up there with the top 3 teams. They are first in many categories but they also have the most turnovers in the league and 2nd worse in scoring from 3. Does not seem to stop them from scoring points. They are built like an old school teams with giants bigs and passing point guards. Problem is their passing points guard is also turning it over a lot.
At this point, I would think the Suns would be the next team. That is the one that surprises me the most with the rankings since they are pretty low. I do believe that although they are not #1 anywhere, they are the next team in line. They are top 5 on defense and they are also dominant on rebounds. They are like an in between of the knicks/raptors and the Kings. They have good bigs, but not as good as the Kings' and also have good guards, but not as good as Raptors/Knicks. They are my next favorite and they could surprise the Nuggets if they were to run into them. I am not sure that they would beat the Kings.
After that, I think there is a pack of 3 teams. Lakers, Blazers and 76ers. These teams are like, I could shock you in playoffs, but I am not showing it just yet. They are not fringe 8th seed. I think they are strong teams that could be a surprise.
Now if I follow the rankings and try to predict the rest of the playoffs picture. Right now I have 3 teams from the East that I have mentioned and 5 from the West. That leaves us 5 in the East and 2 in the West.
EAST
1- Knicks
2- Raptors
3- 76ers
4- Celtics
5- Wizards
6- Cavs
7- Nets
8- Hornets
WEST
1- Kings
2- Nuggets
3- Suns
4- Lakers
5- Blazers
6- Sonics
7- Mavs
8- Rockets
As of right now, and as of the rankings below, I believe that the standings will look like this at the end of the day. Most of the these teams are already in the playoffs hunt and unless major moves at the deadline, I think it will look like this. Celtics and Wizards will finish the season 4-5 or 5-4 and battle it out in the playoffs to see who was really the 4th seed. I think Cavs will fall down a little bit. They barely played 27 games right now. They have the least amount of games from a team currently in the playoffs picture. Then I think the Hornets will fall in the standings to 8th seed and the Nets will move passed them for the 7th seed.
For the West, I think the Lakers have a better team than the Blazers, so they will be 4th and Blazers 5th. Sonics seems to be doing something right since they are 8th in the rankings. I believe it continues and they keep that 6th seed. I think it will be the same story for the Mavs and Rockets. They will keep it this way and finish 7th and 8th. I do not think they can beat the top 6 teams there to be higher in the rankings.
We will revisit these in a few days to see how this holds up after a few sims.
