1. 76ers Arvydas Sabonis C 7'3'' 279 22
From B B- C+ B- B- A
To B- B- C+ B B- A
Sabonis who was the #1 pick in the draft had an okay TC I suppose. Gained some defense rating, but lost some inside scoring which is not really what you want to see from a big. Is it problematic? I do not think so. Scoring is probably the one stats that you can increase the easiest with camps. Sabonis is still looking good in term of ratings and it will be interesting to see if the 76ers will still finish at the bottom this season.
Suggested camp : inside scoring
2. Warriors Drazen Petrovic SG 6'5'' 195 22
From B- B B- B- C- A
To C+ B+ B B C- B
Very good camp for Petrovic. Lost some inside scoring rating, which is not the end of the world. He gained in return outside scoring, handling and defense. Overall very good camp for our guy. Thing that concerns me is that he already dropped to B potential after 1 camp. Somewhat concerned that this camp will be a 1 off and I will not see much growth from here which could be pretty bad in the long run.
Suggest camp : Perimeter scoring or Stretch 4/5
3. Bucks Mark Price PG 6'0'' 175 22
From C+ B- B- B- D+ A
To C+ B B- B- D+ B
Price had a camp I suppose. Gained some outside scoring, without losing anything other than his A potential. You would have liked to see a little more growth in handles especially, but seems like it may have to wait for future training camps.
Suggested camp : 2-way guard or take care of the ball, depending on handles actual rating
4. Pacers Len Bias SF 6'8'' 210 22
From B- B- C B- C+ A
To B- C+ C B- C+ B
First hick up of the draft. Bias has not gained any rating during TC, hell he even lost outside scoring. Is it that bad? Probably not. This is something you can camp without too many issues. Would you have liked to see some development in other aspect? most likely. He also lost his A potential during that same TC which seems a bit odd. Did he injure himself in the TC and just lost his shooting motion?
Suggested camp : Scoring or perimeter or inside depending on the route Pacers want to go with him
5. Blazers Hal Greer SG 6'2'' 175 18
From B- B- C+ B- C+ A
To C+ B C B- C A
This was a guy I was watching during the draft. I liked Greer a lot and I thought it would be a fun project with his young age. Seems like his young age got to him a little bit. Partied a little too hard too often and went down in 3 out of 5 categories while he gained some outside scoring. Losing rebounding is not the end of the world, although rebounding is always good on any player. Lost of handles could be passing that went down, which is also not the end of the world. Inside scoring is the one that can be problematic, since having inside and outside scoring makes it harder for defender, but as I have said already, camping scoring is extremely easy with the amount of camps available.
Suggested camp : Perimeter or stretch 4/5
6. Spurs Roy Tarpley PF 6'11'' 240 21
From C+ C D+ B B+ A
To C+ C C- B B B
Roy had a difficult camp. Had too much fun with his college homies and ended up forgetting about the training camp. In last, out first. He was just happy about his payday. Lost rebounding, which is never good for a bigman in this league. He still has some good ratings and can be fixed, but the lack of scoring and the lost of rebounding hurts.
Suggested camp : Loose ball
7. Suns Dennis Rodman SF 6'8'' 210 23
From C+ D+ C B+ B+ A
To C D+ C B+ A- A
Dennis the menace. Okay camp from the guy. Lost inside scoring, which is okay and gained some rebounding when he was already B+ which is massive. Could be one of the few guys that end up with A defense and A rebounding which would be interesting. I think I would probably play him at the 4 position instead of 3, unless you already have a good 4/5. He should be able to get you 9-10 rebounds per game or close to which is really good. For him you can go 2 routes. You can help his scoring early and see if that can develop and you would have a very dangerous SF/PF, or you can get his defense up to make him probably A- A- and be a future defensive player of year.
Suggested Camp : Scorings/Inside scoring camp or swat school/stocks/power defense
8. Rockets Brad Daugherty C 7'0'' 263 21
From B D+ C- C+ B- A
To B C- C- C+ B- B
Brad decided during the camp that he would focus on outside scoring. He is looking at guys like Embiid and he thought to himself, "I can do that too!". Unfortunately, that is not really what the Rockets had in mind when they selected him 8th overall. Brad will probably struggle at 4/5 this season since he has low rebounding and defense, but it is not over for him just yet.
Suggest camp : power defense
9. Nuggets Ron Harper SG 6'6'' 205 22
From C+ C+ C+ B+ C A
To C+ B C A- C B
Ron blew everyone away during TC. He worked hard and gained 2 points in outside scoring as well as 1 point in defense. Dude had a 1-on-1 tour over the summer and TC. He probably forgot how to pass, which is why he lost some handles, but you are fine with that since he blew up in outside scoring. He could be a very dangerous player this season already with that defense.
Suggested camp : perimeter or stretch 4/5
10. Cavs Zelmo Beaty PF 6'9'' 225 18
From B- C C- B B- A
To B- C C B B+ A
Lastly, we will look at Beaty. Another one who gained 2 ratings in one category. Beaty went from B- rebounding to B+. He also gained some handles over the summer. He was probably practicing with one of those lazy rookies that kept missing shots and he was just rebounding like crazy. Beaty should be a very interesting guy since he is very young and unlike Greer, he progressed in his first youth camp. If he blows up again next year, this could be the steal of the draft.
Suggested camp : power defense / loose ball
End of season awards for Rookies
Now let's see if I can predict the rookie of the year, as well as 1st team all rookie for this season.
ROTY: Hornacek
He does not show up here, but as a PG with B+ outside and handles, I believe he could be the rookie of the year. As a most likely 1st or 2nd option behind Drew, he could get a lot of assists and some points which would help his case. He does not have outstanding defense, but with enough points and assists, the sim will never notice it. I also think that this award is easier to get for PG's. I wanted to say Petrovic could be another option for this award, but he will be behind AI, so I am not sure how many shots he will be putting up per game. Hornacek also blew up during TC with a +2 rating to handles.
Rookie team
PG : Hornacek
SG: Petrovic
SF: Rodman
PF : Beaty
C: Sabonis
Hornacek is a gimme I think in this case. I do not think another PG had a better camp than him or looks better at this time. Same goes for Petrovic and SG I believe. SF, I gave the edge to rodman. He is not going to have as many points perhaps as the others, but he will have more rebounds, steals and blocks which could be good for him. I am not sure how the sim likes those versus points, but we will see. Beaty for PF I think is a given. He just looks solid at his age and could be a very solid PF soon. For Sabonis, I gave him the edge over Daugherty because of his defense and rebounding. Daugherty has more inside scoring ratings, but Sabonis should get more stocks and rebounds.
