Who's Hot
When the Clippers started the season with a 4-8 record all of you guys turned on him. You guys harped on the fact that he doesn't own a first round pick for the next 3 years. He doesn't know what he's doing. Bashing the poor guy. But I believed in him. I knew mcgrady4mvp2 knew what he was doing. I knew he had a plan. And I knew it was only a matter of time before the Clippers got hot. Fast forward to today, the Clippers are the hottest team in basketball. They own the longest active winning streak in the league (8). They're 38-23, which already surpasses last year win total of 37. The Clippers are looking pretty good right now. He said everything was fine. He said the chemistry is gonna come together. And everything is in fact coming together. During the 8 game win streak they have pulled off 3 major victories. 2 wins against the Dallas Mavs, and most recently a 106-102 W vs the Sacramento Kings. All-star Wild Bill Walton had a strong 17/15 double double. While Travis Best scored 27 points with 8 assists (against 0 turnovers). The midseason acquisition of Best has been huge for the team. They got him from San Antonio on Day 57 right before the All-star break. Since the deal the Clippers are 13-5 (.722 winning percentage). With Best, Skinner, Willoughby, Parker, Kupcbak, and Walton they got a nice 6 man group. There's no clear cut #1 option superstar. But all 6 of these guys can score 25-30 on any given night. That offensive balance + a top 10 ranked FG defense = the Clippers playing their best ball since the Kong days. So good job McGrady. I believed in you. But the rest of these guys owe you an apology.
Who's Not
The Golden State Warriors owe the entire bay area an apology for the quality of basketball they have subjected their fans to. They're 15-51 on the season, but that doesn't tell you the full story. You really wanna know how bad This team is? They have lost TWENTY ONE consecutive games. In 15 of those 21 losses, they were held to under 90 points. Aren't these supposed to be the Warriors? The run n gun fun squads. The Run TMC Tim Hardaway, Mitch Richmond, Chris Mullin. The home of bucket getters like Sprewell, Arenas, Jamison. The Nellie Ball squads. The high scoring We Believe team. And ofcourse Steph Curry. A franchise with a rich offensive history like Golden State has produced offensive TRASH this season. They're averaging 90.5 PPG - Dead Last in the league. GARBAGE. They're shooting 41.5 % from the field - Dead Last in the league. HELLEN KELLER COULD SHOOT MORE ACCURATELY. They're averaging 20.1 APG - Second worst in the league. ONLY A TEAM WITH SIR DOMINIC POINTER AT PG AVEEAGES LESS. So in other words there're not very good on offense. On defense neither. They rank 29th in FG defense, and 26th in scoring defense. Allan Houston is regressing in year 4. David West is shooting below 40 % from the field. Allen Iverson leads the league in turnovers. There's so many things wrong with this team right now. But i do believe in Iverson. He is a franchise building block. And maybe one day he will lead this team to success.
Injury Report
Swen Nater (16) - tough break for the Boston Celtics. They're gonna miss Nater for the next 16 days with a fractured jaw. So that means 15.5 PPG and 11.5 RPG is gone from their lineup. 05 6th man of the year winner Jalen Smith will attempt to replace that production. Nater missed his first game since the injury in a Win vs Memphis. During the game Jalen got the start and put up 15 points 16 rebounds 6 blocks. Pretty good right? But can he do it again? Can he be a consistent player in the Celtics starting lineup over the next 16 days? The Celtics are gonna need him, as they battle Miami for the #4 Seed in the East.
LeBron James (5) - Severe migraines will keep 18 year old Phenom LeBron James out of the lineup for the next 5 days. Its been quite a year for this kid who just graduated High School. He's averaged 19.4 PPG 6.3 RPG 3.8 APG. As he looks to be the run away winner for Rookie of the Year. With LeBron out, we'll get to see more of jerami Grant. Grant and Devin Vassell have become forgotten in Milwaukee. Sorta like Ricky Davis and darius Miles in Cleveland after LeBron joined the team.
Joel Embiid (0) - He's Back. After missing 16 games, Joel Embiid will make his return to the Toronto Raptors starting lineup as they face off against the Nets. Shelden Williams did a respectable job filling in for Embiid. He had a 22 rebound game against the Knicks. But offensively he's obviously not Embiid. Now with Joel back, the Raptors are finally at full strength. As they're gonna look to finish the regular season strong and defend their championship in the playoffs.
More News Around The League
- We touched on the Warriors struggles earlier. And they just made themselves a little worse with a pre deadline trade, that's gonna send Dewayne Dedmon (10.3 PPG 7.8 RPG) and Colton Iverson (11.3 PPG 8.6 RPG) to New Jersey. The Warriors will receive cash compensation in the deal. The $400 is a solid return for a pair of league minimum bigs. While the Nets look to be making a late season playoff push. Will Dedmon and Iverson help them?
- One of the teams the Nets will be trying to catch is Chicago. Last night the Bulls pulled off a 4th quarter double digit comeback vs New Jersey. The Bulls backcourt of Snow and Penny combined for 64 points and 18 rebounds. It was a much needed win for Chicago, who has been playing some uneven basketball lately. They've have some impressive wins like a 116-105 road win vs Dallas. But then they've lost to Orlando and Milwaukee. 2 of the 5 worst teams in the East. Bulls gotta find some consistency. When they were struggling back around Sim 5 - Sim 6. It was early. Now its getting late.
- Its starting to get late for the Detroit Pistons as well. They were a fun interesting team to start the year. They began with a record of 11-5 through their first 16 games. Since then they have gone 14-28. And the losses are really stacking up lately. They have lost 9 of their last 11 games. Dropping their record to 25-33 (3 1/2 games out of the playoff picture).
- Elswhere in the East playoff hunt we have the Atlanta Hawks clawing on to the 8th and final playoff spot. Hawks can do themselves a favor by taking advantage of a soft upcoming schedule. 5 of their next 7 games are against Philly, Detroit, Philly again, Golden State, and Milwaukee.
- Speaking of Milwaukee, they've gone 5-5 in their last 10 games. Aren't they supposed to be tanking? Did Iceman have a brain freeze or something?
- Staying in the Tankosphere, let's check on the Indiana Pacers. As we previously mentioned Mr POPE has disappeared. #2 pick Dwyane Wade is only seeing 27 minutes a night. While 34 year old Dave Cowens is earning more minutes than 19 year old Jermaine O'Neal. The CPU makes some asshole lineup suggestions. And they do even worse for the tanking teams.
