I voted no again, third year in a row, and i still voted no for all the same reasons before, this year i decided to look at player of the game stats. maybe his overall numbers didnt impress me enough, but if he took over games enough that would win me over. the following numbers are percent of games played in which the player won player of the game.
HOFers Larry Bird: 33% Wayne Cooper: 14% Moses Malone: 15%
Future HOFers Magic Johnson: 40% Hakeem Olajuwan: 30%
Positional Comparisons: Nate McMillan: 13% Chris Mullin: 15% Ron Harper: 7% Dominique Wilkins: 13%
Bernard King: 9%
I know that who you play with has a role in this, like Harper playing with both Hakeem and Dumars is tough to take POTG honors, but some more numbers to look at.

Well, I've flip-flopped enough on Bernard King that I should run for political office. But, I'm swinging my vote back to the "no" side. What I noticed with King this time around was the significant drop in his production over his past couple of seasons, especially his last season. I guess I'm not so sure he was as consistent as I first thought, rather, he had some pretty nice seasons in the middle and then began what looks to me like was going to be a pretty rapid decline. Based on past voting, I think there is a pretty even split in GM opinion of him though. To me, his most impressive stat is his rebounding for a SG. I focused on his FG% quite a bit when I changed my vote to yes last season, but somehow I overlooked that his last couple of seasons, his FGA went up, while his FG% dropped considerably from his career average. I guess I kind of expect to see a HOF Shooting Guard much more around 28-30 ppg instead of 23, and the 6 rpg just isn't enough to sway me to say "yes" again. I think "IF" he had been camped, he would likely be a much more solid candidate. But the fact remains that he reportedly wasn't camped much, so I don't want to consider that in my evaluation. I'm open to hearing more facts to sway me back to him if they are out there. But, for me, I'm going back to my original "NO" on King.

I voted yes. I really wont swing my vote and I will stick to what I have been. I just think his overall numbers are great. And if this guy does not get in I expect no one with a career 20ppg shouldn't get in either. Unless they average pretty much a double double.

He's still a yes for me...You're hard pressed to find a ton of guys with better stats, and he was an absolutely integral part of the Utah title team in 1984.
Too bad he'll never get in, I think he's absolutely deserving, and he needs more votes to even stay on the ballot.

Seriously...I'm looking at the comparisons between King and Aguirre and I'm amazed that King isn't getting more votes.
King: 2 ASGs, 1 All-League 2nd team, career averages of 23.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.7 steals, 48.9% FG, 87.2% FT, 33% 3pt. Played on 1 title team and in 2 ITP finals.
Aguirre: 3 ASGs, career averages of 24.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.5 steals, 47.7% FG, 78% FT, 37.5 3pt, never played on a title or finals team.
More or less all of their averages are really comparable, and King was the go to guy on a title team...It's really tough to see why there is such a disparity in the voting for these two guys.

I had to vote no. He's was very good, but outside of his 1st season or two, I just didn't think of him as a dominant player. A player needs to be dominant for an extended period of time to get my vote.
