Wizards to Hornets - Ball
Hornets to Wizards: 09 firsts of the Pistons, Magic and Jazz
Cartwright, Antsey, Humphries
$2,500 cash
I don't like this trade at all. Only see one good pick and cash. Ball looks like one of the best pgs and I don't see the point of the wizards moving him especially when this is a proxy and Ball is only 23. I get that players jump ship but still don't like the value. Think tmac should have been in the deal.

I didn't like your Van Horn trade either Spurs are my team though and not a single person offered for the pick. Also van horn is light years away from where Ball is. Can't really compare.

He's a good scorer. That's why I loved the idea of getting him.
But he's got a C defense AFTER Training Camp. And at 22 with 71 potential, it's not gonna get much better. Realistically.
Meaning he's never gonna be a starter. $1750 for a guy who's ceiling is a 6th man. Is that really such a bad deal?

I think this deal makes the Wizards significantly less desirable to a new GM who may be looking at taking a team. Good luck replacing a building block like LaMelo. Only way this isn't an awful loss is if Josh Houston gives away another top 5 - which is always possible. But Timmy Duncan should help him a lot.

Don't think so because your start offer was not much to be interested in. This league allows too much leeway as Van horn being able to go from PF to SG shouldn't be allowed. But even if Van Horn becomes a good scorer that's all he will offer as Ball is a top tier player. I am sure the team would be more.attravtice with Ball on the team over those picks and that's what we are trying to avoid from a proxy team

But what were the chances that a new GM was gonna come along and take the Wizards before the trade? Chances are Sid is running the show in DC for the foreseeable future. So he's building in his vision. Like that initial Dame Lillard trade. What was the deal? Dame for 3 1sts and $2500. What did he get for Ball? 3 1sts and $2500. As for the firsts. I don't wanna keep kicking the Jazz while they're down. But even with Duncan, do you see them as a playoff lock moving forward? Respectively, no. As for Magic/Pistons. Shit look at this fucking east. Somebody gotta miss the playoffs. So taking chances on East teams firsts turning into lottos isn't the worst idea. I think there's decent probability 2 of these 3 picks will become lottery selections. As for the Wizards themselves. Melo kinda put them in no man's land. Because They're not tanking, and they're not competing. This at least shifts them into an actual direction. Now they can tank in peace for the next few seasons. Possibly collect high lottos. Add in those 3 picks they acquired. Plus whatever they get for Griffin. It gives them a nice little treasure chest. I'm just saying. Sid has always been a rock solid GM. He deserves a chance here.

Sid does a good job. I'm more speaking on the deal just as a proxy team. Melo is a huge name and a star. And proxy teams can't even spend the cash because they get all that stuff for free. I feel like offers for Melo should start with at least another sick young talent. But I do agree we aren't getting any new gms flooding the wait list anyway, so if you want to operate with the idea of sid being in charge long term, then I get that

I think as long as new GMs check the owed picks thread before picking a team, that the Wizards will be very popular.

Don’t see the sense in moving LaMelo and hoping one of the picks becomes a lotto

The East is crazy right now. With LaMelo and Griffin, the Wizards were on the outside looking in. Even with big improvement from both, the realistic scenario is a very low seed, and not really looking too much like things would be different in the next couple of seasons.
I certainly understand the proxy team talk, but at this point, I am thinking the Wizards are mine for the forseeable future. I would rather look at the possibility of 5 top 5-7 picks in the next three seasons, and then developing those guys to get a better base of depth for a team.
Lastly, I would love to have gotten more from LaMelo, but jord was literally the only one to even PM any interest in him. The only one.
