The Hornets selected Rick Barry 3rd overall in what many thought was the best player in the draft that season. Lets take a look at Berry's first 5 years. Many though Berry would become the Hornets franchise player.

This one hurt and hurt bad as a onetime proxy owner Barry was to be the guy that saved the Hornets franchise and making it look good for a potential new owner. Even when draft suggestions were made it as offered up that Barry should be the best shooter in the draft. The following qoutes were made about barry in the draft.
"He's my favorite player in the draft." John1974
"He should be the best shooter in the draft." Methatswho"
Like Nurkic the Owner of the Hornets who selected Barry would fail to camp him in 2 of the 4 seasons Barry was eligible to be camped. Missing 6 camps in 2 seasons during a time when the player has high potential, and training camps not kind to Barry might have helped him to at least become a decent starting player that his stats show in year 1. By year 3 Barry's minutes would drop only to see him get more minutes in year 4 as what seemed like a last chance for the once high draft pick. When I took over the team as proxy it was too late for Barry and not long after this, we as a league started to make sure proxy team players got camps to give them a better chance. I personally really wanted Barry and thought he would become on the of best SF's in the league.
