New Season, New Expectation.
This season we are getting close to all in. We know our window is starting to close with the cap mostly. AI will be getting max dollars next season, if he wants to resign with us, which I am hoping for.
Now let's talk about the training camp and the seasons expectations.
Training camp went okay I suppose. Iverson had a huge progress in a category we needed him to get better. He also got better at 3 pointers and on defense. So good camp for him overall. Now we need him to step up on the court. He was having a lot of turnovers the last couple seasons, now I am hoping it gets better. He has pretty good handling and passing. At this point I am counting on him to be the #2 option while Flynn still takes the most shots since he is still slightly better than AI.
Talking about Flynn, he regressed slightly in handling and shooting overall, but still good with him. I think with the progress of AI during offseason, I will move him to SG. He will basically be a no turnover guy on SG and should be very good at scoring. The team will be focusing on outside scoring which is the specialty for Flynn and AI.
New acquisition will be on SF. We are counting on Lloyd Neal to give us great defense and rebounding from the 3. We are also counting on him four maybe 15ppg. Just give us decent points per game without being a liability on efficiency. We want him to help the bigs with rebounding since that was our big issue last season. We were also very bad defensively which we are counting on the progress of AI and on Neal to help us on that end this time.
Then we get to the bigs. Dwight Jones is the one thing that we are nervous about. He regressed in rebounding and scoring this season. We are still hoping he will be a huge help on defense and can still get some rebounds. If we can get some efficiency from him and blocks and rebounds we would be golden. Is that going to be easy, we do not know but we will see soon.
The last starter is the center, Tom Barker. Tommy boy will be our rim protector and rebounder this season again. We want the same from him that we want from Dwight Jones at this point. Rebounds, blocks and not be a liability on shooting. Help the team with getting ball possession.
Now, everyone is wondering what is going to happen with Petrovic. To not worry dub nation, Petrovic was camped to get 4 more handling, which will bring him to 60 which he will now be able to be a super sub. Petrovic will also be our 3rd option since he is our 3rd best scorer and by far our other best option on outside scoring. He still has some development to do on defense, so this season will be good for him to develop in that sense. When Flynn leaves, most likely in 2 seasons, we are hopeful Petrovic will be ready to step in and contribute to the team. He had an okay camp with some outside scoring and some defense. He is still pretty low in handling with 60 though, so that may cause some problem when he becomes starting SG.
Expectations
The expectation for this season is to make the playoffs and reach at least the 2nd round. It is not going to be easy, but we hope we can do it. Easiest way to do that is to obviously not be 8th going into the playoffs. If we are 8th, we are again going to face a very good team and just make it harder on ourselves. Will we be able to? Depends on the West. Last season it was an absolute war. We are expecting something similar this season which means it will be very difficult and we need to get the wins versus bad teams. Cannot let them slip away for nothing. The regular season is a time for trying, but we also do not want to come into the playoffs 8th seed and face a good team from the start. Middle of the pack with our roster figured out would be best case scenario if we are not top of the West obviously.
