Or David Ortiz or bartolo colon or Miguel cabrera or cc sabathia or Adam dunn or Pablo Sandoval or Marlon Byrd or jonathan broxton. Put them on a football field, basketball court, ice rink, tennis court, or track, and watch them die of a heart attack

That quote is absolute garbage anyway. "Put a baseball player in any other sport and he will compete". Yeah okay, have any mlb player guard a NBA player, block a NFL lineman, shoot against a NHL goalie. They will compete and fail miserably while looking like a fool
Or David Ortiz or bartolo colon or Miguel cabrera or cc sabathia or Adam dunn or Pablo Sandoval or Marlon Byrd or jonathan broxton. Put them on a football field, basketball court, ice rink, tennis court, or track, and watch them die of a heart attack
today, Colon could not play any other sport, mostly because hes in his damn 40s. but you cant tell me in his hey day, he was not in shape to compete in other sports
Big Papi, same thing. dude is old now. in his hey day, he could compete in other sports
Miguel Cabrera was a freak of nature when he burst onto the scene. but he is still probably athletic enough to compete in other sports
CC Sabathia was a star baseball, football, and basketball player in high school. again, he, too, is getting up there in age
Adam Dunn was a QB in high school, and even committed to Texas to play there before he was drafted in the second round by the Reds
Kung Fu Panda is big, but could probably do some other sports.
Marlon Byrd is yet another old guy, but in high school, was All-State in football
Broxton said he never liked football, but you cant tell me he would not have been a beast in football back in the day, with his size

Irrelevant, most those players are thriving NOW in the mlb while out of shape.
You can say the same thing about athletes in the NBA, NFL, NHL, when they were in high school. Many many NFL qbs were great high school/college baseball pitchers. Other position players were great baseball players in high school as well. You are using a false equivalent.

I meant how many mlb players have been in the Olympics in a track n field event or different sport. And its important because it shows the athletic ability of the athletes
Last Edit: Mar 22, 2016 16:57:43 GMT -6 by bluechips23
that really means nothing. lets take Mike Trout for example. we can both agree that Trout is a freak of nature athletic beast. dude has it all. he has enough athletic ability that he could play any sport he wants. dude was an outstanding basketball player in high school
Mike Trout has to eat, sleep, and live baseball. to get to where he is today in the sport, he has to play it year round. in baseball, when your younger, you dont really take time off. you have a few weeks here and there, but its mostly a January-December sport. that is why the majority of the guys in the major leagues are not from northern states where it snows a lot. so while doing this, a guy like Trout will not have time to train for Olympic style events.
More baseball players made the Olympics then Basketball and Football players combined .
I hate people like all of you oh they look like me so i can play .
Size aint shit you say CC Bartelo Wells and the Ruth myth . I comeback with Eddy Curry Jerome James Shawn Rodgers Gilbert Brown . Now you want to talk about fat ass lazy pieces of shit . Which to you is more slothfuly a 6'2 225 lbs getting 220+ hits 60 hrs 50+ 2Bs 3 steals of Home or a 6'4 385 lbs man who plays 2 snaps and then takes a blow the most run time he plays is 6 mins i would take 6 mins of the former then the latter . Sure he can probably run a 5 40 at 385 but seriously in what would a football player do to a real athlete
The muscles are different in baseball the closest sport i can say i. All honesty is Boxing and Golf
Boxing because historically no weight lifting . calisthenics . And focused on Forearms and Hands . Shoulders . You should have a stout trunk though maernuverable . Which is why you dont have any real sleak types because of the twisting of your body requires one should be thicker unless they have a painfully short carear like Donald Arthur Mattingly . Your back will go if your not a thick body type . Which is why everyone thinks CC is out of shape when he can more then hold his own with lets say a Glenn Davis and or a Nick Mangold line up all three in any mythological senario I guarantee CC is not last

Delusional on all accounts.
I couldn't find one instance of a mlb player competing in the Olympics (not in baseball). NFL has 36 Olympians.
Your hate statement makes zero sense.
Thinking sabathia or any of the overweight mlb players can out perform NFL linemen is asinine. Squat, bench, pull ups, Olympic lifts, name any. The only chance they would have is maybe long distance running or shuttles, and that's because linemen weigh 80-100 pounds more than the mlb players mentioned. And even running, only Cabrera really has a chance. Also no one even mentioned Ruth.
The whole muscle paragraph was pointless. Baseball players don't have stronger cores than NFL NBA NHL players. NHL players stabilizer muscles needed for skating are way stronger than the cores of mlb hitters. NFL qbs have just as much shoulder/wrist strength of mlbers, and non qbs have much stronger cores as they need to block-tackle-cover-rush-jump while pushed by beasts. The only point that you had that is correct was that baseball for the most part relies mostly on shoulder/wrist ligaments, and that is fairly obvious.
Even the title "athlete"s etymology is Greek originated, the inventors of the Olympics. The first Olympic events were sprints, shotput, javelin, wrestling, long jump, and horse races. Of those javelin is the only thing a baseball player would excel in compared to nhl and NBA players ; nfl players would excel at all (except horse racing haha)

What do you get with football which is to me a very specific skills be big be strong and thats it never mind the mental aspect of the game . For instance throwing a baseball is infinitely harder to throw pass a player then you to throw a football . Sure you have 4 seconds to get the ball out in football . But you can still throw a football . It's more natural it's a scientific fact the way you throw a baseball is improper from the macanics of the human automy fact .
I leave the NBA out of it because they are the cream of the athletic crop . However i would put Hockey shotgun with basketball . Since both sports are continues action where as the lazy sports of baseball and football where in both sports are torture for add people since both last about 3 hours yet your actual play time as a starter is about 16 mins in football and about the same in baseball depending on your plate approach and if your a infielder which can actually surpass a standard mlb player to a standard nfl player .
Your not fighting fair blue . You bring up CC Sabathia . Cool i brought up Eddy Curry and Gilbert Brown .
Do there splits if we have them on CC and Eddy cause we. Should have all we need on Brown . Since football focusing on speed and strength . Where as baseball focuses on skill and guile . If you are a top athlete yes it wouldn't necessarily make you a better baseball player with out your skill to hone . However 95% of Baseball players are athletes on top of there maniacal persuit. Of skill perfection . Where as football you can not play it at all and still get drafted based on speed see Carl Lewis or Strength see Magnus Olfson sp they get drafted with out a hint of football skill . And to me this among other things has always made view the NFL as a random league with very little continuity there for to me it sucks which is why there contracts is the only sport . Not to be guaranteed in the least . Hell even hockey has guaranteed contracts . Why is that . Why pay someone to play a sport that all you need is to be fast strong and with agilty All things you can work to be better . On the real you either can hit a ball or you can't throw the ball or can't field or can't . And. Your not hidden by your uniform or 21 others in a play . No. Baseball is very individual and you will find all other sports is a team sport in a truest sence . Baseball is a individual sport in which no individual can truly change there teams fortune unlike a Jordan in NBA. Or Greatsky in NHL Or Tom Brady in the NFL .you can have Clayton Kershaw and still lose 100 games because baseball is bigger then even the best of there players

I brought up cc and the others because it goes back to one of my previous main points, I dont believe baseball is a sport because you can excel while being extremely out of shape/drunk/high.
Football by no means is just about speed and strength and anyone who thinks that has never played at a high level or invested into learning the ins and outs. Football has had plenty of physical freaks that didnt stay in the league because they werent smart enough (i.e vernon gholston). QBs have to know every section of every play in their playbook, remember them after getting hit by a gorilla, set players up at the line of scrimmage, decipher what the defense is lined up in, where the defense is attacking, who is the "Mike" (how lineman know who to block Each play), know what audibles are available for the current package and formation they are in, know the progession of where to throw the ball (1,2,3,4, checkdown), AND THEN the play starts. After which, if its a pass, they have 2.7 seconds to diagnose what the defense is actually running, where the blitzers are actually coming from (also zone or man), diagnose if the defense is in zone or man defense, whether the safeties or linebackers are doubling a receiver, then make a throw while partially blinded by 10 6'5 behemoths in front of them, and lead the receiver thats going roughly 20 mph while not allowing the pass to be too slow or too hard and in a window that the defender cant touch. Theres absolutely nothing stupid about that process, and has wayyyyyy more moving variables then what "mental" baseball players have to go through. A pitcher has a minute: to know the batters strengths/habit but the catcher helps him, what bases are occupied (infielders shout it), how many outs (real tough), what base to cover if he allows a hit, and then he throws to a stationary person albeit a crouching one. and your telling me football is the dumb sport. And for anyone who thinks the qb is the only one that needs to think, your wrong. Sure there are positions that require a lot less thinking (WR, DL), but each position has many variables that need to be deciphered. it would take too long to go on about each position but i will if i need to. And while throwing a baseball is hard, it is not "infinitely harder" to throw than a elongated (sometimes wet/muddy) air filled football in a tight spiral; baseballs are perfectly designed to throw.
I'm not going to get deep into this because anyone that is a professional athlete has some amazing athletic skill to get them there.
There have been a number of athletes that have played baseball in addition to other sports. Bo Jackson, Deion Sanders, and Brian Jordan all played baseball and football professionally at the same time. Joe Mauer and Todd Helton played both football and baseball before choosing baseball. Mauer was the top QB recruit in the country and Helton played QB at Tennessee. Then there were other players that changed sports after failing at baseball like Danny Ainge and Chris Wienke.
There are a number of guys played multiple sports. Some played baseball successfully and others didn't.
ITP.2 History Clippers/Wolves GM - 543-359 (.602 winning percentage) Made playoffs in 10 of 11 seasons
ITP-3 1975 57-25 - ITP Champions 1976 50-32 - Lost in 2nd round 1977 44-38 - Lost in 1st round 1978 57-25 - ITP Champions
Bullshit i doubt you ever played baseball even on a tee ball level if thats what you think . Let me put you on to something . Now about as high as we get is a good amateur or novice level pro i guess .
Look i was a athlete in my day . My sports includes
Basketball
Baseball
Boxing
Football
And
LaCross
Now all of these sports ive COMPETED IN on a level then dicking around
In Basketball I've played in the Rucker played at W4th played at Lincon Park in Brownsville . I've played with and against such players such as . God Shamgod .Skip Alston . Moochie Norris . Lenny Cooke . Joakim Noah . Lance Stephenson . And wasn't ran off the court . Now I'm not trying to make myself as particularly good at basketball by any means . But there was a time where my 5'10" Carcass could defend and handle the ball and do so at a high level of street ball since i couldn't do it the typical way since i dropped out of school when i was 12 13 years old .
Boxing i am a amateur fighter fighting at 154 for about 3 years did the whole gambit my hands are registered and i have my fight book . I fought in the NYC Golden Gloves the Metros the Spanish Gloves preliminaries did all that . Boxing is the Hardest sport by far that's if you look at trying tokill one another is a sport or a crime
Football granted especially when i was growing up was not a New York sport . You need large swaths of Grass no trees and a ball . Well growing up it New York those commodities are scarce . Since we dont just have 100 yard fields laying around and if you do find one then you have to worry about Hyperdermic needles crack viles , blood piss shit cum snot cocktails and o5her vile that is New York city when i was 15 and playing football . Instead we chose to play tackle on mainly concrete with glass shards brushed off at the sides . But it wouldn't matter because if i was Big enough fast enough and strong enough i would of gottena scolaship to college being green as can be in the game . Just off of speed and strength period think Vernon Gholston
Hockey was brought up . And that's i have a profound respect for . Have any of you actually played hockey. Because I have no near high level . But you now i always liked NHL 94 on genises and because i had a chance too . This is a insanely hard sport and i was running with shoes on a gym floor not skating on ice doing what i was trying to do . But on a lesser level i played LaCross for a few years which is insane on another almost a hockey or Baseball level of flinging that ball and receiving it the running and cutting and never mind constant action that the sport does inquire
Baseball my love andsport i was best at . You're Fooling you're self that you are i can just step in and play baseball . Baseball is a sport that you always have to play you can't really even take 6 months off and hope to make baseball because you're playing speed would be off . Well you say oh in football your timing would be off . No not quite. You're playing against a individual in football outside of a reciever there's no forigin objects flying at you your dealing with people . You should no if a person is here that he can get there in a certain amount of time . It's different then having a small projectile hurldling at you any where from 60 to 106 mph you guess if it's a straight pitch is a pitch out over the plate are is the worthlesd pitcher a maniac that will hit you is it a curve slider knuckle or offspeed and that one aspect what about the field where you can be lulled into sleep then boom a hot shot right at you nigga fuck being tackled by Ronnie Lott you ever got hit with a line drive of your forehead ? Never mind trowing a baseball is unnatural.
Yeah Football is easy all you need is speed and strength

For Joe curry:
I don't like to bring personal experience into itp but since you are trying to use it as a qualifier, I played AAU Bball from 5th grade to senior high school, was 4 year starter /2 time captain in hs (3 time fball captain), then balled with Rutgers Bball team for 4 years, then practiced with my cousin at Columbia (6'9) when he played Bball there. I played against Jr smith, earl clark, mike Rosario (and supplied/chiefed with him hah), shut down Kenneth faried multiple times, held dumbass derrick character x4 to under ten points (he was 6'10, I was 6'5). I played in NJ and played against all the NJ /NY squads my age: bendicts, patricks x4, Anthony's x2, linden, and many teams I've forgot, and went to nationals twice in aau. I've played in the gym rat tournament multiple times. My downfall was I was 6'5 white guy built like a football player and only had a 30 inch vert. I still got offers, I just got way better ones for football. I chose Rutgers for multiple reasons.
I played baseball until AAU ball took too much of my time in 8th grade, then I had to bowed out. But after I couldn't play fball anymore I dabbled back into baseball and while I was rusty as hell I still thrived batting against pitchers throwing around 80-93. Having hand eye coordination and quick reactions while in football shape goes a longggg way in baseball.
I also had been begged by the baseball/hockey/lacrosse/track coaches (hs) to join to help. I decided to help our lacrosse team my Jr year (our OL coach played tackle in NFL and was coaching the lacrosse team) and i started on our state ranked team (#teens) after 3 games, we had two all Americans on our team. I played defense and broke 5 players sticks in one year, desticked the #1 player when we played him and even pulled a rusty gate against a top team player. I'm not Ignorant about any of those sports by any means, so don't assume. And I personally think MMA is the most athletic sport then football then wrestling then boxing/basketball. Not to say that's the order of best athletes. Football players are the biggest freaks you can meet. Seeing one guy being able to bench 350+, squat 550+, run 4.5 40, have a 35+ vert, and broad jump 10 yards.. Is a sight to be seen. Yet the most athletic football player I've met (artist Gilmore) never stepped onto the field once at Ru because he was stupid and didn't have the balls, he was a real nice guy though.
