Lakers trade:
Draft rights to Gerald Wallace Donyell Marshall #11 pick Lakers '79 1st
Jazz trade:
Kevin Love George McGinnis Truck Robinson
What a steal by the lakers. I offed 500 cash and #12 for love. But this also could work out for me as I have the jazz picks for the next 2 years.

Lakers did get a ton of talent for sure, but any gm thats been in trade talks with me about my maxes has been lowballing because i am on the clock. I just figured i get this hardcap issue over with, and try to get as much young talent to continue to build around my vets.
Gerald Wallace Brendan Haywood Donyell Marshall getting far under the hardcap still compete with slick-Gervin-Wallace-McAdoo-Olajuwon and have marshall n haywood off the bench
That more than works for me, knowing i was going to be on the losing end of any deal where i give up love.

It gives utah an interesting blend of youth (wallace, Haywood, Hakeem) and win now pieces (McAdoo, Gervin, watts). They're definitely in a much better long term position now.
Obviously the Lakers got some really nice value. Add Love and McG to Barkley and Hill. Wow.

"I have absolutely no idea how can this offer be better then mine, but i guess some teams like to suck..." Huxley
Offer= Vlad Divac, Bowie, Clippers 80 for Love
just for those curious about hux's outcry.
So i wouldnt be shedding any cap because of divacs salary, he hasnt been camped. Bowie is a project backup. Clippers 80 could just be a late 1st rounder

You both are clearly insane if you think that a questionable talent such as Wallace + some worthless picks are better offer then Divac/Bowie/future first.
Just insane.
Lakers got himself Love for free and Jazz got garbage in return, it's that simple.

Let's do a quick comparison of both offers.
Gerald Wallace vs. Vlade Divac I think Divac is probably the better player right now, but not by a lot. However, there is no way Vlade is worth a max contract, and Wallace is on his rookie deal making about $3 million per season, for the next 4 seasons. Verdict: Lakers by a huge margin
Donyell Marshall & #11 pick (Brendan Haywood) vs. Sam Bowie I'm not a huge fan of Marshall, but he is a solid forward to have coming off the bench. I think Haywood will be a solid big off the bench for the Jazz. Bowie is also a solid bench big as well. Bowie and Haywood are pretty similar players, but when you factor in the addition of Marshall I have to say this favors the Lakers. Verdict: Lakers by a slight margin
1979 Lakers 1st vs. 1980 Clippers 1st This is a wash. Neither pick is likely to be in the lottery, and they will likely be in the 17-23 range. Verdict: Even
Now, the Jazz also included Robinson and McGinnis in the trade with the Lakers as well. To me, if the Jazz would have made a trade with the Suns, Robinson would probably not have been brought back, and McGinnis would still have had to get traded as well. That is assuming he could find a taker before resigns were due because I don't think he would have been able to accept the resigns if he stays over the hard cap.
To me, the choice would be easy and I would pick the Lakers offer every time. Divac is worth maybe half of what he will be paid for the next 6 seasons. There is no way I would want his contract on my team, and it makes even less sense for the Jazz. They already have max contracts of Slick Watts, George Gervin, and Bob McAdoo. There is no way they could afford to pay Divac that kind of money with those other contracts, and Divac doesn't play anywhere close to the level of those other 3 guys he's already got.

Yeah, I wasn't sure about that. I know in another league I'm in, you can't go over the hard cap with your resigns.

Both teams still have some work to do after the trade but the Lakers come out way ahead in this trade IMO.
Jazz Roster post-trade:

Lakers Current Salary: $53,981,756
Jazz are extremely thin in the frontcourt and don't have much cap space to work with to bolster it (MLE, LLE, Minimums)
The Lakers have no Center or PG but have flexibility with Hill and McG but have $8,018,244 in cap space plus the above-mentioned exceptions. However, they already have 13 players on their roster plus the #19 pick in the draft. Expect at least a couple of players to be cut to make room.
And FWIW, Hux accepting a Max. contract for Divac is (in my best Charles Barkley voice) "turrible". Divac just isn't that good. His numbers, both ratings-wise and stat-wise, are pedestrian at best.
I think if BC would have been a bit more patient, he could have 'parted out' the players moved in this trade to fill out his roster a bit better.

Potential isn't that high anymore. Hasn't really developed much. Potential never lived in Phoenix. It would be a true blasphemy if any of the Suns players actually 'develop'.
