There were some valuable posts regarding the draft from the previous board.
Ok, I finally had some time to go through the rest of the list. The only thing I'm not sure of is the ratings for Dean Garrett and Anthony Mason.
Fake Players
Billy Bowen
Billy Joe Schneekloth
Broderick Peters
Eddie Szczerbiak
Jarrett Daumeyer
Joel Hinkle
Jose Litwack
Keith Day
Logan Brandon
Lorenzo Gulick
Marco Abdul-Wahad
Marcus Davies
Mark Risen
Mobius Fowler
Renato McPhereson
Richard Ewing
Rob Likens
Robert Rogers
Scoonie McClure
Seth Dickau
Spencer Hughes
Thomas Greer
Thomas James
Trenton Van Horn
Players already drafted in the league
Mark Davis - 1985 draft
Anthony Bowie - 1986 draft
Dave Popson - 1987 draft
David Wood - 1987 draft
Jack Haley - 1987 draft
Jim Les - 1987 draft
Jose Ortiz - 1987 draft
Scott Brooks - 1987 draft
I think Anthony Mason should be somewhere around here: C+ C C C+ B- with good potential. If he gets up to B(-) C C B B+ it would be a pretty accurate look at a guy who averaged 11.5/8.5 per 36 for his career. The only sticking point is the fact that Mason averaged a fantastic career FG%, so that would lend itself to higher inside scoring, which would inflate his ratings...John, I have a couple ideas for Mason's build if you want to PM me.
Dean Garrett...Can you say specialist? C D+ C- A- B, with mid range potential. 9.3 rebounds, 1 steal and 2 blocks per 36 minutes for his career, with career highs of 11.2 rebounds per 36 and 2.4 blocks per 36. I could easily see Garrett being Cadillac Anderson without the scoring. Good post defense, good shotblocking, average stealing and decent offensive rebounding with good defensive rebounding. Average strength for a big man, etc.
I see some of the changes that people talked about, mostly defensive downgrades, which I agree with across the board. With that said...
Mitch Richmond needs to have better defense than a C+, though it doesn't need to be better than a B-. I still think that his outside scoring could be a B from the start, but a high B- could work too.
I also think that Hersey Hawkins could use a little bump in inside scoring, low B- probably, but I really like the defensive change.
Chris Morris could have A- defense, especially at SF. I could see him being a B/B+ defender at PF, fwiw.
Steve Kerr needs better outside than C+. My proposal for him is that we give him C- inside but A outside right from the start. He shouldn't score more than 7ppg, but he should be able to do that by shooting the lights out.
I think Dan Marjele should have B/B+ outside to start, as he was one of the premier outside shooters of his time.
Rod Strickland looks a lot better overall, though I still think that with his offensive style, more focus on his inside scoring makes sense. B- inside would be good.
John Starks still needs some work, imo. I think his ratings could be B- C+ B- B+ D+ with good potential and just let the sim engine do what it will with him. Starks was solid in real life though, so he deserves those kind of ratings.
Rony Seikaly's outside scoing and handling could both be a bit higher...He wasn't TO prone and he was a good FT shooting big man. D+s or C-s would be appropriate.
Hopefully Rik Smits doesn't really have D or F potential.
The vast majority of the changes look good though, especially the defensive changes, and I think overall we're a lot closer to having a finished product.
