Why would the rockets trade a younger better player for someone much older and more expensive, and give $$?

At this point, the Rockets have too many camp-worthy rookie contracts. Brandon was not going to get camped in Houston his remaining years. I wanted to bring in a veteran who is a quality starting point guard (and currently IS better than Brandon) to be able to get Wilt the rock. He should be able to resign without breaking the bank, as some of the rookie deals start to come off the books and replaced with larger veteran deals.
Wilt gets first attention now. Then Artest. Then Laettner. Afflalo. Etc....

27 isn't "much older" than 23 is it?
Also you could say Cousy fits the outside roster construction of the team better with Afflalo and Artest.

First, say the average solid player stays in the league 14 years. 4 years is 28.5% of the players career, so yes much older.
Second: the Rockets traded #2 overall pick Alonzo Mourning for Brandon and other pieces, a questionable trade at the time. Now they’re trading Brandon AND $$ for Cousy.
Third: Is Cousy a better fit for an outside offense? Yes. Should the Rockets, who just traded for one of the most dominant bigs of all time, be going away from that players strength to run outside with Ron Artest (62 jump shot) as their 2nd scoring wing? No. An inside offense with a way above average inside player in Terrell Brandon, Wilt, and Afflalo is younger, cheaper, and playing to the strength of the guy who is 18 that you just traded Michael Jordan for.
Forth: Next season the rockets are set to have loads of cap space with Barker coming off the books, and would have all their pieces outside of Artest back on rookie deals, an optimum place for roster construction, and a great place for a new gm to take over.

Wilt Chamberlain or no Wilt Chamberlain, nobody is running an Inside Offense in year 13 of the league.
It's either balanced or outside. And even in balanced you're better with a shooting PG. Terrell Brandon has 37 3pt shooting. You're not fixing that. Which brings us to the Sids primary point about cash. You can't camp everybody. And of their 4 core young guys. I'd say Brandon was #4.
Was it the greatest trade? No. Value wise Sid lost. But do I understand? Yeah I do.

You can absolutely fix 37 3 pt. You can add +15 through camps alone the next 3 years, bumping it to 52 and it’s one of the highest growth attributes for a PG
If he’s not worth camping, then why would you trade the guy you just picked 1.2 for him?

Brandon looked good on the orginal draft preview file.
B- C+ B B D+ A 22 years old (Brandon)
Vs
B- C D B+ B- A 22 years old (Alonzo)
However, after the Year 1 TC his shooting didn't improve. It stayed at C+, and I can understand why the excitement on Brandon might have dimmed a little. It's not that he sucks. He just is worse than Wilt, Artest, and Afflalo. So you move on. Sometimes we all gotta move on off players.

It’s impossible to know whether his 3pt shot grew since we don’t get pre-tc attributes for rookies. Also, I will take Brandon over Artest 10 times out of 10. Arrests scoring grades are still crap after 3 tcs, and Brandon has high inside which is harder to find.

The Rockets are still in a better position today than they were when I took them over. I didn't ask if you would approve the trade, because I don't need to ask if you approve the trade. I had a plan in mind when I originally traded for Brandon, and it did not pan out a year later, when i look at the Rockets team, cap, strengths, weaknesses, etc.... It's all good, man. I'm not sure why you are all bent on this.

If this works out for the rockets, feel free to quote my posts and tell me to fuck myself. More participation in threads is good for the league, not bad for it.

Since we're on the record. What are your thoughts on sign and trading for Jalen Smith's 6year 132 million dollar contract? I thought it was awful what Pepe Silvia did to the poor sap. What do you think sapular ?

What do you think sapular ? The irony is thick. 2010 181 Knicks Sign C Jermaine O'Neal for $86,250,000 over 4 years.

Thicker than you can imagine That contract is absolutely absurd lol So what's your take on Jalen Smith @ 6years/132mil? Cause I'm willing bet when you saw that number in the re-sign thread your first thought was: "fuck that shit" Second thought was: Hey buddy. How you been my dear friend sapular ? And that's the part that bugs me. Here you are with 10 different posts critiquing Sids trade. Knowing that 5 days earlier you took a 132 million dollar dump on sapular head. That's what you call throwing rocks in a glass made residence.

That's what you call throwing rocks in a glass made residence. You have a clear misunderstanding of the phrase. Throwing stones when I live in a glass house would be critiquing what I think is a bad trade for a team when I’ve made bad trades for my team. Trading Jalen Smith was not bad for my team. Did I want to retain Smith at that salary? No, I didn’t. I shopped smith to a couple teams, including I believe the Suns. Sap was interested. If you want to say sap shouldn’t have traded for Smith, that’s fine and your opinion, as well as more than within your rights. I could have just declined Smith and sap might have been able to get him for less in fa, that is very true, though we’ve seen the market for similar players (see O’Neal, Jermaine) and it’s a similar contract. I’m not going to defend sap trading for Smith, that was his choice. Would I have done it? Likely not, but he’s tired of sitting around tanking so I get it.
