The ITP has taken control of the Houston Rockets making its first move to veto a trade made by the prior owner. The Rockets traded away yet again another lotto pick allowing the Knicks to stack yet again another high-level prospect selecting 8th overall PG Steve Nash. The Rockets Trading first round picks away for little to nothing has been the norm as the list of what could been grows. A team that is under .500 (185-225.) for its career only making the playoffs twice should not be trading away, excuse me giving away 1st round picks for pennies in return. The team went 44-38 in the league's first year despite having a losing roster mainly due to many teams in the west deciding to rebuild. Who was their star player that year? Well Billy Knight, and they did have a couple good players but what would become the normal way of doing things for the team would turn into poor trades, auto-picks, and having -2000 in the bank each season with no hopes to spend on players in need. The following season they would go 44-38 yet again after trading Al Skinner age 25 away and bringing in Earl Monroe who was 32 in the first of trades that although not horrible was still a head scratcher to many in the league.
Lets look at the draft from inception to current draft.
Pick 1 Was clock expire pick.
Pick 2 Was clock expire pick.
Pick 3 Was clock expire pick.
Pick 4 Was clock expire pick.
Pick 5 The Rockets Owner made his own pick.
Pick 6 The Rockets Owner made his own pick.
Pick 7 Was clock expire pick.
Pick 8 Was clock expire pick.
The most important picks the draft was done by the league so now you can see why the team had to stright 44 win season thanks to the league.
2001 Draft
Rockets select 18th overall Kenyon Martin Jr via Clock Expire.
2002 Draft
Rockets select 19th overall Joe Harris via via Clock Expire
2003 Draft
Rockets traded the 9th overall pick to the Lakers
2004 Draft
Rockets traded the 7th overall pick to the Lakers
2005 Draft
Rockets traded the 8th overall pick to the Knicks.
In 13 picks (not including tradition 2nd round picks the.) the Rockets owner picked 2 times, the auto pick 8 times, and traded away 1st round picks 3 times. The future? well lets talk about that the Rockets owner traded away 2006, 2007 first to the San Antiono Spurs further crippling the franchise. If you can imagine what the team had a chance to draft, spend, and of gain via trades who much better they could have been, of I mentioned trades well lets just look at the Antione Walker trade. Antoine Walker although not a great player had decent ratings with camps to be done and what did the Rockets do? well, they couldn't camp him because of negative cash, and then they signed him to a contract of 6 years' worth 128 million! and while we don't have time to look at all the trades the last one that was nixed by the league was just the type of trade you would expect from the Rockets. So now the League has control and no picks, no quality prospects, just a couple years of dumping contracts and hard knocks.
PS. This is a rough draft i didnt have time to edit it as i am leaving for the camper.
