Rookie in depth rankings 1-12
Part One
Part One
1) Ron Artest
Warriors
Potential: 86
Scoring: 61/63/74
Defense: 54/58/56
Steal: 75
Jump/Strength: 69/72
Mr. World Peace is the most talented of this rookie class, sporting promise across the board. He is probably the only prospect in this class that doesn't even need camping to mitigate any problems, TCs should take care of most of his ratings. Suggested Camps: Weights & Plyos Camp, Scoring Camp, 3 and D camp. With no one even ghost GM'ing the Warriors though, Artest runs the risk of falling through the cracks and wasting seasons uncamped. Hopefully a Eastern Conference GM steps up to the task, if for no other reason then to groom Mr. Artest for a change of scenery after his rookie contract expires
2) Steve Francis
Magic
Potential: 75
Scoring: 62/72/71
Pass: 71
Per/Dr Defense: 55/52
Steal: 74
Quickness/Jump: 81/72
Francis is runner up in this rookie class, with an excellent scoring base, passing, stealing, and quickness. He does have a few ratings that could use some early boosts, but after year 3 he should have them all figured out, if he gets the attention to camps that he deserves. Suggested Camps: Gym Rat Camp, 2-way Guard Camp, Weights & Plyos Camp. Magic are another team without even a ghost GM, Francis should probably be able to grow without camps, but he won't likely become the monster he is capable of becoming. Maybe a Western team should lend a hand...
3) Shawn Marion
Nuggets
Potential: 72
Scoring: 55/78/51
Defense: 52/58/61
Steal/Block: 54/56
Rebound: 66/65
Jump/Strength: 75/87
Shawn Marion could be argued as the 2nd best rookie, as his skills have a solid floor across almost all the ratings, and with his GM already camping him, it appears they will get the proper training to become elite. These ratings are before he was Gym rat/Charity stripe camped, so his scoring is aleady better than what appears above. With another pair of camps next season and a good TC, Marion could start being a impact player against veterans. Suggested Camps: Perimeter Defense Camp, Weights & Plyos Camp. Nuggets have a solid trio of Rookie/Sophmores to build around, and an empty rest of the roster, so they could be drafting another promising player next off season as well. It should be interesting to see how Marion and Wilkins play together side by side as they both fit the SF mold.
4) Manu Ginobili
Spurs
Potential: 77
Scoring: 70/67/48
Handle: 68
Per/Drive Def: 57/71
Steal: 74
Jump/Strength: 76/69
Manu comes in at #4, due to his solid defense and athleticism that compliments his scoring base. He will need to get some luck and work on his 3pt shooting if he really wants to be elite, but it isn't an impossible task. Suggested Camps: Stretch 4/5 Camp, Scoring camp. Yet another GM-less team, it would be a waste of Manu's raw abilities to be left campless, as he could soon see himself as just a rotational SG role player in a few seasons without getting practice from beyond the arc. Its already bad enough to watch Butler's career being wasted in the San Antonio heat.
5) Elton Brand
Suns
Potential: 72
Scoring: 62/59
Post/Drive Def: 56/66
Block: 72
Rebound: 84/65
Jump/Strength: 73/79
One of the let downs of the draft at first looks is Elton Brand. His potential isn't superior nor is his scoring nor strength. He isn't a bust yet, but he will require camp attention if he is to become a star in this league. Don't get me wrong, He has rock solid base to be a non option player, but will need camping to be a force down low. Suggest Camps: Gym Rat Camp, Swat School Camp. Elton is in a good place to be properly camped if his GM pays attention, as his team is full of non camp-able vets and a team that is expected to make the playoffs this season.
6) Andre Kirilenko
Knicks
Potential: 69
Scoring: 62/70/43
Handle: 59
Defense: 66/57/64
Steal/Block: 65/64
Rebound: 65/46
Jump/Strength: 72/62
The defensive unicorn makes his appearance... Kirilenko has the base to become a force on the defensive side of the court without much camping or luck. His offense is solid but lacking a 3pt threat. The biggest weakness to AK47 is his potential and strength, he will need some help in those categories for him to reach his full potential. Suggested Camps: Gym Rat Camp, Weights & Plyos Camp, Inside Scoring camp, Above-the-Rim Camp. Although Ricky Pierce has been neglected since his draft day, now Joe_Curry is stepping up to the plate to babysit the knickerbockers. The NY native has a decent trio of young players to develop in AK, Ricky Pierce, and Tobias Harris. They will all need some guidance to grow though; Tobias is the most polished prospect and is financially rewarded as well, so maybe its worth looking into cutting ties with Pierce to acquire some extra cash to focus on developing AK to his full potential.
